I made this quick video to show a detailed comparison between the Melling M313 oil pump that is readily available at most auto parts stores for around $80.00 and the OEM Honda unit.
-Again this is not a brand new Type R oil pump but from all the research I have done, it’s the same internally.
I have reached out to Melling as well as researched how both companies manufacture their pump gears. Both companies use “powdered metal” compressed, smelted and then machined. This method yields very hard but very brittle pump gears. For NA use this should be fine but with power adders, I would look into forged gears such as Toda to help deal with the sudden shock loads.
