Panaji, June 6: A serious criminal case involving alleged abduction, wrongful confinement, assault, robbery, and extortion has been registered by local police following a complaint lodged by a 20-year-old resident of Taleigao.

According to police, the incident reportedly occurred on June 3 between Caranzalem, Agacaim, Bambolim, and Shirdona. The complainant alleged that a group of five individuals, acting in concert, intercepted him and his friend, threatened them with a knife and bottles, and forcibly took them in a vehicle to multiple locations.

The victims were allegedly confined in secluded areas, where they were repeatedly assaulted using fists, kicks, belts, wooden sticks, and plastic pipes. The accused are also alleged to have forcibly taken the victims' mobile phones and a gold earring.

Police further stated that the complainant was allegedly threatened and compelled to hand over ₹40,000 out of fear for his safety.

Based on the complaint, an offence has been registered under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, relating to criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, wrongful confinement, assault, robbery, extortion, and criminal intimidation.

The investigation is being carried out by the investigating officer, and further inquiries are in progress. Police have informed the concerned judicial authorities and circulated alerts to relevant law enforcement units.
