Petrol bomb explosions, ballot boxes being destroyed in the presence of election officials, and attacks on TDP workers with knives and sticks — these were among the violent incidents reported in several districts during the local body elections in Andhra Pradesh. In the battle for local political positions, clashes broke out between leaders and party workers, with both sides determined to protect their political prestige and influence. In Yerripalle village of Pulivendula Mandal in Kadapa district, YSRCP workers allegedly attacked police personnel with petrol bombs. Two people sustained serious injuries in the incidents, while a journalist was also attacked and his phone was damaged. At R. Thummalapalli in Lingala Mandal, a dispute over the arrival of MP YS Avinash Reddy reportedly triggered clashes, during which YSRCP workers allegedly hurled petrol bombs at TDP supporters and caused damage. In S. Ramapuram village of Gopavaram Mandal, YSRCP leaders allegedly poured ink into a ballot box. In Marutla-2 village of Anantapur district, YSRCP workers reportedly entered a polling station, attacked election officials, carried a ballot box outside, and smashed it with stones. Non-bailable cases were registered against 60 people in connection with the incident. In Bestharapalli, an alleged attempt was made to attack TDP MLA Amilineni Surendra Babu, during which his gunman sustained injuries. Former MLA Thopudurthi Prakash Reddy also made strong remarks while police were attempting to place him under house arrest, reportedly saying, "If you confine me here, murders will take place there," while allegedly provoking YSRCP supporters. In Arlabanda village of Kurnool district, polling was stopped after around 60 people were accused of engaging in rigging. In Gummanur, TDP workers were allegedly attacked with sticks after chilli powder was thrown into their eyes. In Thoorpu Digavalli village of Eluru district, TDP worker Rompicherla Sitaiah suffered serious injuries after YSRCP leaders allegedly attacked his neck with a knife. Similar attacks on TDP leaders and workers were also reported in Guntur, Srikakulam, and Parvathipuram Manyam districts. Webcasting equipment was also reportedly damaged in some places. Responding to the violent incidents, election officials stated that they would examine CCTV footage and webcasting recordings, conduct an investigation, and take action against those responsible.
