The Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) in Islamabad hosted the launch and translation of Tragedy in Kashmir by Abdul Haq Suharwardy. The book traces the history of Kashmir, the events of Partition, and the long struggle of its people, based on documented facts and original sources.
Speakers highlighted the book’s historical significance: Senator Dr. Zarqa Suharwardy described it as an important record of the Partition era with references from Indian and British authors. Former AJK President Sardar Masood emphasized the need for younger generations to understand how Kashmir was annexed by India. Ambassador Ashraf Qazi noted the author’s rare eyewitness perspective, while Ambassador Jauhar Saleem stressed Pakistan’s responsibility to support the Kashmiri people.
The book uses original correspondence between Nehru, Patel, and Mountbatten to show how Kashmir was separated from Pakistan and integrated into the Indian Union, providing a clear, evidence based account of a long standing issue.
