Crossing the Nubian Desert

Описание: We set up gps coordinates for Old Dongola, an early medieval city site on the banks of the Nile, and headed out at dawn on a straight line transect for 123 kilometers across the desert. Hard work, but damn good fun. Lots of digging, and pushing, and wedging sand ladders under the wheels to get out of soft sand, and climbing up onto the top of dunes to see which way we needed to go to get out of the dune fields. And at the end of it, a delightful wadi, with a couple of thorn trees and a big dune to provide shelter from the wind.
