The lecture argues that The Hungry Tide, and the generation of Indian novels in English to which it belongs, represents a distinctively Indian way of writing that does not require the approval of former colonial powers. The lecture also examines the novel’s non-linear narrative, which uses relics from the past, such as an old notebook, to illuminate the present.
