RagaTone: Kathak - Tap Duet | Latest Dance Off 2018

Here’s a jugalbandi of Kathak and Tap that takes you beyond culture and genre. In this piece, performed to IndianRaga’s musical production RagaTone, it is the intrinsic play of rhythm and footwork or Tatkaar, of both genres that creates a harmony of dance steps.  The dancers begin with an introduction to the footwork of both styles, then circle each other highlighting the complementary nature of the footwork of both dance styles, before showcasing the individuality of the two genres through a series of solo movement patterns. Finally the dancers perform together depicting the integration of the genres.

The choreography by Shivani Badgi and Sujana Sreenivasan uses the fast tempo of the Bol and the music to recreate the fun musical phrases of Raga Tone through movement and imagery.
