Super Death Benefit Nominations: Who Gets My Superannuation When I Die?

Your Will does not determine who gets your super when you die. The payment of your superannuation is determined by a superannuation death benefit nomination. And, there are only certain people that your super can be paid to.

Structuring the payments of your superannuation correctly, through the use of death benefit nomination forms or reversionary income streams, can give you greater confidence that your super (and any insurance within super) will end up in the right hands when you pass away.

In this video, I’m going to explain the types of death benefit nominations that can be made, the types of people your death benefit can be paid to, an example of where to find death benefit nomination forms and how to make a death benefit nomination.

I will also cover some considerations when making death benefit nominations, such as expiry dates, dying without a nomination, death benefit taxes, SMSF death benefits and whether your death benefit can be paid as a lump sum or income stream.
