Anton Chekhov's drama The Seagull is often used as the basis for various ballet productions that can be found on theater programs today. In 1980, the ballet was performed at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow under the direction of conductor Alexander Lazarev. The choreography focuses on emotional devastation, destruction, and deadly paralysis. “There are no happy people in this sad story,” noted Maya Plisetskaya. Taking up the content of the play, the most outstanding dancer of the 20th century performs the ballet's choreography at the highest level. The dancer Alexander Bogatyrev also contributes to the brilliance of this performance. The music was composed by Plisetskaya's partner Rodion Shchedrin, with whom she had already successfully performed several ballets. “The Seagull, with music by Rodion Shchedrin, is one of my most impressive and important choreographies.
