Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport – Taipei, Taiwan 桃園機場
IATA: TPE | ICAO: RCTP
It serves as the main hub for China Airlines, EVA Air, and Starlux Airlines, along with numerous international carriers from around the world.
The airport handles flights to major global hubs including Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND/RJTT), Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT/RJAA), Hong Kong International Airport (HKG/VHHH), Singapore Changi Airport (SIN/WSSS), Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN/RKSI), Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK/VTBS), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX/KLAX), San Francisco International Airport (SFO/KSFO), Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA/KSEA), London Heathrow Airport (LHR/EGLL), and many more destinations throughout Asia and beyond.
Taoyuan sees a wide variety of aircraft types operating daily. Long-haul flights are commonly operated by modern widebody aircraft such as the Airbus A350-900, Airbus A350-1000, Boeing 777-300ER, and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. On certain high-capacity routes, airlines may operate the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger aircraft.
Regional routes around Asia are typically flown by narrow-body and medium widebody aircraft including the Airbus A321neo, Airbus A320, Boeing 737-800, and Airbus A330, serving high-frequency routes to Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, and Greater China.
Cargo operations are also a major part of the airport’s activity. Taoyuan is consistently ranked among the world’s busiest air cargo hubs, with freighters such as the Boeing 747-8F, Boeing 747-400F, and Boeing 777F regularly operating here for global logistics carriers and Taiwanese cargo airlines.
The airport operates two parallel runways capable of handling the largest aircraft in the world:
Runway 05L/23R – 3,800 m (12,467 ft) asphalt runway used primarily for arrivals and long-haul departures.
Runway 05R/23L – 3,660 m (12,008 ft) asphalt runway used for mixed operations including regional and international flights.
Both runways are equipped with modern instrument landing systems (ILS), allowing safe operations during Taiwan’s frequent low-visibility weather conditions and typhoon seasons.
With its constant mix of long-haul widebody aircraft, regional jets, and heavy cargo traffic, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE / RCTP) offers a diverse range of aircraft movements and is one of the best airports in Asia for aviation enthusiasts and plane spotting
