Japan is building a 620-foot missile-defense warship in the same Nagasaki shipyard that built the battleship Musashi. It will carry 128 missile cells, American SM-3 and SM-6 interceptors, and later Tomahawks. Officially it's just an "Aegis System Equipped Vessel." Here is why it exists, why it's so big, and why it matters to the U.S. Navy.
