This video focuses on patterns of weak reasoning classified as fallacies of relevance. Following Ch. 4 of Baronett's "Logic" (2nd ed.), the video introduces the concept of fallacious reasoning (both formal and informal), and the first eight fallacies: Ad hominem (and ad hominem circumstantial), tu quoque, mass appeal, appeal to pity, appeal to force or fear, appeal to ignorance, missing the point, and appeal to unqualified authority.
Although Baronett's text is followed for all the relevant videos posted here, for the most part, the concepts and skills presented are the same as other critical thinking textbooks, e.g., Hurley and Copi/Cohen. Differences are almost entirely stylistic, not substantive.
