Rose, Patchouli, & Cedarwood is a scent featuring the notes as listed in the title. The scent opens with a sweet floral rose before being met with woody cedarwood and musky-earthy patchouli. While not a complex blend, the scent is a classic smell with a wonderful balance. I would consider this a multi-season wear, meaning I don’t feel like it is geared toward any one type of climate. This scent will be polarizing to many and therefore, I consider it a casual wear. Scent strength off the container is mid-strong, as you lather the scent become closer to mid. Similar scents from wet shaving are: Chatillon Lux Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli and Ariana & Evans Portrait in Soho.

Mike’s Natural Soaps employs a tallow based soap with an ingredients list of: Distilled water; saponified tallow (beef) and stearic acid; vegetable glycerin; saponified kokum butter, avocado oil, and shea butter; lanolin, fragrance and/or essential oil(s); saponified coconut oil; kaolin clay, vitamin E. The soap base is mid on the firmness scale and loads very easily into a brush fiber of choice. This tallow base is of normal thirst as compared to the majority of tallow based soaps. Once properly hydrated and agitated, the lather will resemble the consistency of greek yogurt. Visible slickness is is excellent and residual slickness does not depart from that excellence. The post shave feels very good, a luxurious and soft feeling is left once rinsed. Having not used Mike’s Natural Soaps in years, I am left to reconsider the ShaveScore. Based on several current uses, the updated ShaveScore for Mike’s Natural Soaps is an 89. For a similar experience in terms of lather quality and performance I recommend, Chiseled Face Groomatorium and Ballenclaugh.
