Pinus flexilis is a species of Pine native to the Rocky Mountains. While this species is very tolerant of high alpine soils and climate, it is also very versatile to other conditions such as heat and clay soil. It is a better alternative to alkaline soils than the Eastern White Pine (Pinus strobus) in Eastern North America through USDA Zone 7. The species is hardy to -40°F. The needles are thicker than the Eastern White Pine but not prickly at all. The color is a deep blue green, adding that extra "color pop" to the landscape. While minor issues of aphids or scale are possible, they are not a threat to the species. The only real threat I could find in research is the White Pine Blister Rust when landscaped in the Northern Limits of the Eastern White Pine Native Range.🌲
