Matt Bellamy stumbled upon the main 'paradiddle' theme whilst jamming on a Hotel Steinway.

He started laying the paradiddle on just two notes, constantly playing it, over and over again until he got to a point where extra notes were sort of finding their way in there. He built it up to the point where he was playing five-note chords on the piano and it was sounding heavy. He then developed a chord structure, and was then thinking, "This could be something".
