Title: Insights from numerical simulations of the dissipative Euler flow
Event: (TUR) Mathematical aspects of turbulence: where do we stand?
Abstract: To resolve the sub-critical part of the Onsager conjecture, De Lellis, Szekelyhidi, Isett and collaborators devised ways to construct mathematically weak solutions to the incompressible Euler equations that dissipate the energy. We develop a numerical simulation of one construction due to Buckmaster, De Lellis, Szekelyhidi and Vicol (2019).
In this talk, we describe the construction and discuss insights obtained from the simulation into the physics of turbulence. This is an on-going work in collaboration with U. Frisch and L. Szekelkyhidi.
