Claude Pro vs Max vs API: What I Actually Pay

This video is for professionals who saw the Claude pricing page and felt confused. Free, Pro, Max, API: four different things, and mixing them up can cost you real money or get your account banned.

I run two Max plan subscriptions at $400/month total because I use Claude Code all day to build and run an AI team. You almost certainly do not need that. For most professionals, the $20 Pro plan is more than enough to start with Claude and begin replacing tools you already pay for.

The part most people get wrong: tools like openClaw use the API, not your Pro or Max plan. Running those on a subscribed account violates Anthropic's terms and can get you banned. Use the API only if you are a developer connecting Claude to external systems and you know what you are doing. Otherwise, stick to the subscription plans.
