Stagecoach Yorkshire: X17 • Matlock to Barnsley

Описание: Almost a year ago, I started this very channel with X17, which saw Brightsidio's Travels grow in ways I could not imagine. This journey was originally recorded in two parts on different days: November 23, 2024 from Matlock to Sheffield and then January 3, 2025 Sheffield to Barnsley. Fast-forward 9 months later, and I find myself re-recording this very journey on October 25, 2025 during my great escapade in most of South Yorkshire that day, which involved a lot of bus and train hopping!

X17 was introduced in September 2010 as a replacement for Chesterfield services 17 from Matlock to Chesterfield and 727 from Chesterfield to Sheffield. However, a little over four years later in 2014, this route became a Stagecoach Gold service, limited-stop luxury bus services that operate at rather long distances and may provide through journeys in the form of connections. 2018 saw X17 continue to thrive as it gained hourly extensions into Barnsley via Meadowhall shopping centre and new buses complete with USB power, then in May 2023, it gained hourly extensions past Matlock into Wirksworth via Matlock Bath and Cromford plus an increased frequency of every 30 minutes from Matlock to Sheffield before gaining a stop to Matlock Farm Park every 3 hours the following year in 2024, and a massive upgrade of electric buses in the form of Enviro400EVs in April 2025, meaning that there were no dedicated buses for X17 since then.

Since both the Matlock to Sheffield and Sheffield to Barnsley corridors were done on X17 a lot, I thought why not speed up the non-stop sections this time around?
