Caribou, also known as reindeer in Eurasia, are a species of deer found in the Arctic and subarctic regions of North America, Europe, Asia, and Greenland.
There are several subspecies of caribou, including the barren-ground caribou, woodland caribou, and the Porcupine caribou. Caribou are uniquely adapted to their harsh Arctic and subarctic environments, which is pretty impressive. Did you know that they are also called reindeer in Europe and Asia?
caribou typically live in tundra ecosystems, which can be found across northern Canada, Alaska, and in some parts of Scandinavia and Russia.

During the winter months, caribou rely on lichens and other low-growing vegetation that they can dig through the snow to reach, as well as stored fat reserves to survive the harsh winter conditions.
