RANS S21, RANS S 21 Outbound, light sport or experimental two seat aircraft, RANS Designs.

At Airventure 2017 Rans Aircraft had on display their latest Cub style aircraft in kit form. According to the factory the RANS S21 Outbound was designed to be powered by the 180 hp Titan aircraft engine, the two-seat S-21 Outbound a short-field landing and take off, two-seat experimental or light sport aircraft with an impressive cruise speed.

“This is exciting for us, building a big two-seater with a lot of power and aerodynamics that allow both a 150-plus-knot cruise speed and STOL credentials, and building in features that make assembly easier and more accurate than ever,” said Randy Schlitter, Rans’ founder, owner and CEO, who also designed the S-21. “This should be the fastest-build kit we’ve ever offered.”

The S21 Outbound is available in either ataildragger or tricycle gear configuation. Kit construction is metal, and building times are expected to be in the 500 hour range.

The Outbound is designed with slotted flaps, which produce less drag than other flap configurations, allowing for the swifter cruise speeds. With a 1,800-pound maximum gross weight, the airplane will also offer a respectable 815 pound useful load. With nearly 32 gallons in the tanks, the Outbound will be capable of flying up to 527 miles at economy cruise.

The first prototype is currently under construction.
