A devastating flash flood has struck Nepal’s Manaslu trekking region, destroying dozens of homes, damaging bridges and leaving several people missing. The flood hit the Budhi Gandaki River area in Chumnubri at around 4 AM on Sunday, disrupting access to remote settlements and damaging a primary school. According to reports, between 35 and 40 houses have been swept away, while six bridges have been destroyed or damaged and several other homes remain at risk. Authorities suspect a landslide may have temporarily blocked a tributary before the accumulated water and debris surged downstream, although the exact cause is yet to be confirmed. Several residents and herders remain unaccounted for, while Nepal’s Army has rescued 49 people. The disaster has also stranded more than 150 foreign tourists across Jagat, Lokpa and Chhekampar during the peak autumn trekking season. Officials say the tourists are safe and helicopter evacuations are being arranged. Authorities have also issued alerts in parts of Dhading, Tanahun, Chitwan and Nawalparasi, urging residents near the Trishuli and Narayani rivers to stay away from riverbanks. Rescue operations and safety monitoring continue across the affected areas. Stay tuned to News9 for the latest updates on Nepal’s flash flood disaster and evacuation efforts.
