This talk explores how insulin resistance is central to metabolic dysfunction and connective tissue fat disorders. Metabolic disruption, chronic inflammation, and gut dysbiosis create a "perfect storm" and contribute to conditions like lipedema, Dercum's disease, Madelung's disease, and Elhers-Danslos Syndrome (EDS)
Key focus areas include understanding how altered glucose metabolism affects fat tissue behavior and creates resistance to traditional weight loss approaches. Metabolic disruption promotes inflammatory cytokine production and disrupts normal fat tissue metabolism. The talk explores how "inflammaging" (chronic inflammation) and "metaflammation" (metabolic inflammation) develop, particularly highlighting how gut microbiota influences these processes.
Attendees will discover how metabolic dysfunction leads to increased inflammation, altered fat storage, and compromised tissue repair. New research on microRNAs recently found in lipedema tissue shows their role in metabolic signaling and possible biomarkers. This exciting research could lead to new discoveries for Dercums disease.
We will discuss treatment approaches focusing on improving metabolic health through targeted nutritional interventions, supplementation, lifestyle modifications for metabolic health, and stress management.
This integrative perspective explains why traditional approaches often fail and why metabolism-focused interventions are crucial for treating these complex diseases.
