Day Trip to the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains of California

Описание: In October 2024, we took a day trip to the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains and spent the day site-seeing. Joint us on our amazing adventure!

We visited Mono Lake. Mono Lake is a large, shallow, alkaline, saline soda lake located in Mono County, California. It is known for it's unusual limestone formations called tufa towers, which rise from the lake's surface creating an otherworldly landscape!

Then we visited June Lake Loop which is a scenic route which is just a short distance from Mono Lake. The loop offers access to several picturesque alpine lakes including June lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake and Grant Lake.

Our third stop was Hot Creek Geological Area. This area was fascinating! It was a short but steep walk down a paved path down to the hot springs and geothermal pools. The geothermal activity in Hot Creek is a result of its location near the Long Valley Caldera.

Our final stop was the Virgina Lakes which consists of Big and Little Virgina lakes and Trumbull Lake. There are several other smaller lakes that can be hiked to. We visited Big Virginia Lake. It is an incredibly scenic spot. I used to fish here as a child and I have many wonderful memories here. It is a very high elevation lake at 9700 feet above sea level. The area offers an abundance of hiking trails, fishing, camping. During the winter, the area is accessible for snow shoeing and cross country skiing but road access can be limited due to snow.
