The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Tarique Rahman, achieved a historic landslide victory in the 13th Parliamentary elections, the first since the 2024 Gen-Z-led uprising that removed long-time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Unofficial results show BNP winning around 209 of 297 contested seats, while Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the main opposition with 68 seats. Smaller parties like the National Citizen Party (NCP) secured a handful of seats. With this majority, Tarique Rahman is set to become the next Prime Minister. National voter turnout was reported at about 59–60%, reflecting strong public engagement. A constitutional referendum held alongside the elections saw the public vote “Yes” for reforms in the July National Charter. Early constituency results include BNP’s Salahuddin (Cox’s Bazar-1), Abul Kalam (Tangail-7), Sohel Monzur (Pirojpur-2), and Zakaria Taher (Cumilla-8), while Jamaat candidates also won in Sherpur-1 and other areas. The elections mark a major political shift, with BNP returning to power after over 20 years, focusing on democratic governance and reforms. The outcome has drawn regional and international attention, highlighting Bangladesh’s evolving political landscape.

Pakistan’s jailed former prime minister Imran Khan reportedly lost about 85 % of the vision in his right eye, leaving him with only around 15 % sight, his lawyer told the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The 73‑year‑old, imprisoned since August 2023 on a 14‑year corruption sentence, had complained of blurred and hazy vision since late 2025, according to a legal report submitted to the top court. Despite his repeated complaints, authorities did not take timely action, and a blood clot (central retinal vein occlusion) was later diagnosed as the cause of the severe damage.

His legal team and supporters accuse jail officials of medical neglect, saying delayed treatment worsened his condition. Khan was taken for a brief 20‑minute procedure this month, but critics say it was insufficient.

The Supreme Court has ordered a medical board to examine his eye and allow access to his own physicians by February 16. Authorities have also been directed to arrange telephonic contact with his children during the review.

The development has sparked public concern and protests, with party leaders and supporters calling for urgent care and accountability. PTI officials argue that proper medical attention was denied, fueling political and human‑rights debates across Pakistan.
