A Serra de Santa Bárbara abrange toda a zona oeste da ilha Terceira e compreende um estratovulcão com cerca de 13 km de diâmetro e uma altitude de 1021 m. No topo deste edifício vulcânico destaca-se uma caldeira, com um diâmetro da ordem de 2 km e uma profundidade aproximada de 150 m, no interior da qual se observam alguns domos, espessas escoadas lávicas de natureza traquítica, e mais para oeste, algumas lagoas de pequenas dimensões. No seu cimo inscreve-se uma área de 1.100 hectares, classificada como Reserva Florestal Natural e está inserida na ZEC - Serra Santa Bárbara e Pico Alto PTTER0017 - Rede Natura 2000.

The Serra de Santa Bárbara covers the entire western area of ​​Terceira Island and comprises a stratovolcano with about 13 km in diameter and an altitude of 1021 m. At the top of this volcanic building there is a caldera, with a diameter of the order of 2 km and a depth of approximately 150 m, inside which there are some domes, thick lava flows of a trachytic nature, and further west, some lakes of small dimensions. At its top is an area of ​​1,100 hectares, classified as a Natural Forest Reserve and is included in the ZEC - Serra Santa Bárbara and Pico Alto PTTER0017 - Rede Natura 2000.
