The Reserve Bank of Australia has put a hold on the cash rate but Australian households should expect one more rate increase to come, says Commonwealth Bank of Australia Head of Australian Economics Gareth Aird.
“If you go back to their communication over recent weeks, I think they were hinting they really wanted to pause today and that’s what they then delivered on,” Mr Aird said.
“Given they’ve got what we call ‘hiking bias’, they’re still saying if they’re going to do anything in the short run it is to tighten policy further and lift interest rates high.”
