Biblical/Quranic Tradition: The well is traditionally believed to be the spot where the Prophet Moses (Musa) stopped for water after fleeing from Egypt and met the daughters of Jethro (Prophet Shu'ayb), one of whom he later married (Exodus 2:15-16). This area is identified as the ancient land of Midian.
Physical Description: The well is an ancient water source dug into bedrock and was historically the main water source for the Al-Bad'a oasis. While it has been restored over different historical periods (Nabataean, Islamic), the well itself is currently dry.
Nearby Sites: The site is near other locations associated with the Exodus narrative, including the "Caves of Jethro" (Magha'er Shuaib) and the proposed site for Mount Sinai at Jabal al-Lawz. Another location with a strong tradition of Moses is the Maqna oasis, where a spring still has clear water flowing from it.
Tourism: The Well of Moses is a significant site for religious tourism and historical exploration in the growing tourism landscape of Saudi Arabia, particularly within the area designated for the NEOM project. The location is accessible and can be found on mapping services.
