Step by step guide on replacing the axle (you could also upgrade to titanium axles) and all bearings on worn Speedplay pedals with a fair amount of play.
These pedals had done well over 20,000 miles with a lot of wet riding. Despite regular greasing they still needed some attention.
I paid around £11 for the replacement bearings and £15 for replacement axles on eBay - usually a few around from people swapping out to titanium axles. This tutorial would apply to upgrading to titanium axles too - I couldn't get hold of any when I completed this overhaul, without waiting for weeks for them to come from China - and I had the Fred Whitton Sportive imminent!
