STORYLINE
Violence continued in Indian-administered Kashmir on Wednesday as the Indian prime minister prepared to meet moderate separatist leaders.
Two gunbattles between the Indian army and suspected militants left seven people dead in Jammu and Kashmir state.
Three suspected militants were killed in an early morning raid on Wednesday .
After receiving a tip-off that the suspects were hiding in Hayan village, soldiers raided the hamlet, triggering a gunfight which killed three suspected militants, an army spokesman said.
Hayan is about 40 kilometres (25 miles) northeast of Srinagar.
Three soldiers were also killed in the gunbattle.
Separately, another suspected militant was killed in a skirmish with troops in Bandipore, about 65 kilometres (40 miles) north of Srinagar, the army spokesman said.
On Sunday, attacks by Islamic militants left 35 Hindus dead in Doda district, the single bloodiest attack by Islamic rebels in Kashmir since a 2003 cease-fire between India and Pakistan.
The talks in New Delhi are the second meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, an umbrella organisation for moderate Kashmiri religious and political groups.
However, after the two sides failed to meet as planned in February, there seemed little chance Wednesday''s talks would result in substantial progress.
