"PAMS Radio Jingles" "PAMS Series 34A Power Of Love" "WSGN 610 AM Birmingham, Alabama"
Here is another jingle package from PAMS of Dallas; this time for THE BIG 610, WSGN in Birmingham Alabama.
1967 brought Series 34A, "THE TENTH DIMENSION" or alternately know as "THE POWER OF LOVE."
PAMS had recently installed a new, custom-built ten-track tape machine whch would alow greater flexibility in recording jingles. It seems Bill Meeks, the founder of PAMS, was always seeking to be as innovative and cutting-edge as possible when it came creating and recording jingle packages and the introduction of the ten-track recorder was part of that.
For the most part, the entire band would play and record all at once. The vocals would be added later, recorded onto another track (or two, as many times the vocals would be "stacked" or reinforced by having the vocalists record their vocals multiple times to create a larger, denser vocal sound.) The ten-track recorder now meant that jingles could be recorded the way many record companies recorded their music.
Most notably, with the Beatles now showing the world how a recording studio could become as much of a tool in the recording process- manipulating effects, recording specialized parts onto individual tracks and having more control over the final mix, everyone saw the possibilities in recording and Bill Meeks was astute enough to take notice.
Note also, this package was available in three variations: "The Power of Music," "The Power of Love" and "Music Pow Pow Power." Each would fit stations that played Top 40 but with allowance for a harder rock sound, traditional Top 40 sound or a bit of a softer sound.
The vocal styles were varied: there were absolutely soulful cuts with vocals by the amazing Lucy Crane and Peyton Park (who sounded like Ray Charles but was actually Caucasian); there were cuts with the traditional male/female group sound and a series of cuts featuring PAMS' regular group of four fellas who provided some astoundingly tight Four Freshmen-styled vocals.
