XYZ is one of the most valuable Responder conventions I use. Why?  Because it gives the Responder the ability to differentiate among hands that have 6-9, 10-11, and 12+ points and the shape of the hand, including hands with 4 versus 5+ card majors.  Wow, that is a lot!  It also allows the creation of the Responder Mini-Reverse: 5-6 cards in 1st bid suit, 4-5 in another suit, and exactly 10-11 Length points.  It also replaces the use of New Minor Forcing (NMF).  Because you can use XYZ whenever there three bids occur on the 1-Level [1C(X)-1H(Y) : 1N(Z)], it gets used a lot more than most conventions.
