The Scots poem "Auld Lang Syne", written by Robert Burns in 1788 was set to the tune of a traditional folk song.
I believe the song is all about remembering good old times spent with friends and whether they should be forgotten. "For auld lang syne", loosely translated might mean "for the sake of old times".
I have written a new melody to pay tribute to Robert Burns and the Scots poem "Auld Lang Syne". My new version is in the second half of this video. Let's all sing and wish each other a very happy new year.
Lyrics to Auld Lang Syne:
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And never brought to mind
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
And days of auld lang syne
Chorus
For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We'll take a cup of kindness yet
For auld lang syne
And there's a hand my trusty friend
And give me a hand O' thine
And we'll take a right good-will draught
For auld lang syne
Chorus
For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We'll take a cup of kindness yet
For auld lang syne
I was also inspired by the Scottish singer/songwriter, Mairi Campbell. Her version of "Auld Lang Syne" was featured in the movie "Sex And The City". I truly enjoyed Mairi Campbell and Dave Francis's version and I know many of you do. I hope you will enjoy my version as well.
The song begins with a rhetorical question as to whether it is right that old times be forgotten, and is generally interpreted to remember long established friendships.
