This is Agüimes - Gran Canaria

Описание: Agüimes is a town located on the southeast of the island of Gran Canaria which in the last few years has risen in popularity because the government made some investments in the area and it has greatly improved.

Although Agüimes was not a great Tourist attraction back in the day, now many people go there especially to visit the archaeological caves. By the mountain called Morro del Cuervo there are several native caves of people who lived on Gran Canaria prior to the spanish conquest.

In fact, it is said by historians that Agüimes was an important population centre of native people or Guanches which is the way canarians refer to them.

Another famous part of Agüimes in Gran Canaria is the Basilica de San Miguel which is a religious building that was built around the 1800s.

Though one of the best places to go and visit is Barranco de Guayadeque. Which is one of the longest ravines in Gran Canaria. There you can see many native caves people used to live. However, nowadays most of them have been reformed and turned into restaurants.

It's pretty nice to have lunch or dinner inside a historical cave, but the best thing is that it is great food, very cheap and typical food from Gran Canaria.

Another thing Agüimes is famous for is their beach Pozo Izquierdo which has perfect conditions to practise windsurf all year around.

If you happen to be on Gran Canaria, then you may want to visit Agüimes and maybe go to eat at Barranco de Guayadeque.
