Winners of the world cycling championships were Russia's KOLJUSHEV - MINJKO- MOSKVIN & TERECHENKO who beat the defending West German team by a fraction of a second. The amateur sprint title was won by Belgian PATRICK SERCU. The Italians won the professional sprint title when SANTE GAIARDONI beat his fellow countryman Antonio Maspes, six times a winner of the title. Britain's BERYL BURTON beat Belgium's Yvonne Reynders in the wome's pursuit.
