April 2, 2006, WrestleMania 22: "The Rated-R Superstar," Edge, and "The Hardcore Legend," Mick Foley, have been in a heated rivalry for months. It started when Edge accused Mick Foley of costing him the WWE Championship, when Mick Foley was the special guest referee in a WWE Championship rematch on RAW against WWE Champion, John Cena.
This led to Edge challenging Mick Foley to a match at WrestleMania 22. Mick Foley upped the ante by demanding a Hardcore Match, which Edge accepted.
