Описание: At the Ministerial Launch of the 2026 Disability Research Funding round, Dr Scott Avery delivered a powerful keynote exploring how Indigenous knowledges can shape the future of disability research in Australia.

Speaking at the University of Technology Sydney, Dr Avery challenged researchers, policy leaders and institutions to rethink inclusion, safety and research leadership through the lens of culture, truth-telling and relational practice.

His keynote highlighted:
• Indigenous cultures of inclusion and wellbeing
• The importance of truth-telling in research systems
• The role of researchers in addressing ableism and systemic barriers
• Intergenerational leadership and building pathways for emerging disability researchers
• The need for disability research that leads to real change in communities

Dr Scott Avery is a Professor of Indigenous Disability Health and Wellbeing at UTS, an Aboriginal man and descendant of the Worimi people, and a nationally recognised leader in Indigenous disability research and policy. His work has influenced national frameworks including Closing the Gap, Australia’s Disability Strategy and the Disability Royal Commission.

This keynote was delivered as part of the National Disability Research Partnership’s 2026 Disability Research Funding Launch — supporting research by and with people with disability to strengthen policy, practice and community outcomes across Australia.
