The contract to build six (6) Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) with South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) worth PHP30 billion was signed by Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana for the Philippine Department of National Defense (DND), and Hyundai Heavy Industries vice-chairman and president Sam Hyun Ka, at the Department of National Defense.
The event was witnessed by South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Kim In-cheol; General Andres B Centino, Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines; RADM Caesar Bernard N Valencia, Acting Flag-Officer-In-Command, Philippine Navy; and other DND, AFP and HHI officials. This is the culmination of months of careful study by the Department of National Defense, as endorsed by the Philippine Navy.
