The Task Team investigating political killings in KwaZulu-Natal was central to the controversy, which followed scathing allegations by provincial Police Commissioner Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
The entity was established in 2018, as directed by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
In his explosive media conference in July this year, Mkhwanazi accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu of trying to disband the task team without following proper procedures.
The work of the PKTT and Mkhwanazi's allegations have become the subject of investigation by the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry and Parliament's Ad Hoc Committee.
