To be a Christian is to be a follower of Jesus. To be a follower of Jesus is to be a disciple. A disciple is a student, one who diligently studies at the foot of his master, who learns from Jesus and dedicates their lives to not only knowing but applying his teaching. This is the commitment of a disciple.
But most people don’t want to do the work. They’d rather make it a simple matter of belief.
In our reading today, Jesus speaks with three followers and we learn the depth of commitment he asks of each one of us to be his disciples.
There is the Overeager disciple
The Reluctant disciple
The Someday disciple
As we go through each one, ask yourself: How does this fit with me? How would I respond to Jesus?
