Little Known Golden Visa in Europe

Today we are talking about a very little known Golden Visa in the EU: Lithuanian Golden Visa.

Lithuania is not a country many people talk about, I visited for the first time and was pleasantly surprised with how developed, organized and neat it seems to be.

Lithuania is famous for being easy and convenient when it comes to obtaining banking and EMI licences. This country also has the best IP box regime in Europe.
However, it is important to keep in mind that taxes are not particularly low in Lithuania but that can certainly be optimized.

Getting residency in Lithuania is relatively difficult compared to many other countries in Europe.
That being said there are three residency paths that may be interesting.

The first option is The Startup visa. This is for people from the tech space, in particular for the founders of tech startups. This path doesn't require minimum investment, but it does require to show enough income of around 8000 euros per month.

The second option is The Business Visa. In this option the applicant needs to invest into the business. The business needs to have at least 28k euros of paid up capital. Each visa applicant needs to hold at least 14k of that. This visa also requires you to employ at lest one Lithuanian or EU citizen. Company must submit business plan, which will be subject to approval from the government.

The third option is Lithuanian Golden Visa. This path requires a minimum of 260k euro investment into an active business. An applicant must have involvement with that business. This path requires you to employ 5 people in Lithuania.

All these visas are valid for up to three years. After 5 years you can qualify for permanent residency. You are not supposed to be out of the country for more than 6 months at the time.

To get permanent residency, you must not be outside the country for more than ten months over five years.

It is interesting to note that Lithuania has free zones, and it is possible to invest into one of their free zones. Investing a higher amount, like 500k euro , can accelerate the approval process.

With these visas you will be able to bring dependents. You can bring dependent children and a married spouse, including gay spouses, but you can't bring common law spouses.

After 5 years of permanent residency you will be able to qualify for the citizenship. Dual citizenship is generally not permitted, but there are exceptions.
