London Monopoly Locations: Old Kent Road to Pentonville Road [Part 1]

Описание: In this Monopoly tour of London, I visit each of the places on the original UK Monopoly board and share the history behind each of the properties. Here's where I went in Part 1:

1. Old Kent Road - The only location on the board that’s south of the Thames. This road was built by the Romans to connect Dover to London. It's also the cheapest property on the Monopoly board.

2. Whitechapel - This is 2nd cheapest on board. The area was named after a chapel that was painted white (painted with lime & chalk) and stood on the location.

3. King’s Cross Station - Named after a statue of King George the 4th that stood here. The statue was taken down by the people because it was too big and ugly. It stood about 70ft including the plinth.

4. Angel Islington - This is only place on the board named after a building and not a street.
It’s a COOP Bank now and has a Monopoly plaque inside to commemorate the game. Victor Watson and Marjorie Phillips had tea at this location when it was a tea room. It was here they finalised the locations of the board and decided to add Angel.

5. Euston Road - Named after the Earl of Euston who owned land in this area.

6. Pentonville Road - This is the last stop on side 1. It was built in 1756 and named after Henry Penton who was the first developer to build in this area. It was built as a bypass to avoid the busy Oxford Street
