Luc Deleu talks about the philosophy and work of his practice, T.O.P. Office. Since 1969 Deleu has attempted to develop a means of evolving cities in which each inhabitant is given the greatest possible opportunity to organise the environment in which he or she lives to their own satisfaction. Central to this is the creation of a spatial chaos in which large structures and interventions have been conceived so as to appeal to society's feeling for order and proportion whilst also encouraging and tolerating the conflicting styles of its members. In 1995, Deleu and T.O.P. Office began to develop the 'Unadapted City', an urbanistic work which would make possible the creation of general luxury housing (of a conceptual and spatial - rather than material - luxury) by defining a multi-functional urbanistic framework in which the desires of urban living could be satisfied.
Luc Deleu has taught and lectured in Europe and the USA, and his work has been published and exhibited widely.
