In this tutorial, we explain how to install and run locally and privately (securely) distilled DeepSeek-R1 version with a graphics user interface on a Linux Ubuntu computer. We use WebUI framework to run DeepSeek locally. We explain how to install DeepSeek R1 in a graphics user interface.

In our previous tutorials on DeepSeek-R1, we explained how to install and run DeepSeek-R1 locally by using Ollama and a terminal window. That tutorial received a positive feedback from the viewers and subscribers of this channel and in a less than a week received more than 50,000 subscribers. Running DeepSeek and similar LLMs by using Ollama and a terminal is a first step toward building an AI application. Namely, you would first like to test the model and see if it can work on your hardware, and then, in the next step you would embed the AI model in your application. For that purpose, you would most likely use Python or a similar language enabling rapid prototyping.
However, a lot of viewers have asked the following question: “How to run DeepSeek-R1” locally and securely in a graphics user interface. In this tutorial, we explain how to run distilled versions of DeepSeek in a graphics user interface or GUI.
There are several approaches for running distilled versions of DeepSeek in a GUI. The first approach that we covered in previous tutorials is to write your own GUI by using Streamlit. This approach is for more advanced users. However, there is a simple approach that you should consider to following if you are only interested in building the model and not embedding the model in some other application. Namely, you can use WebUI to securely and locally run models. In this tutorial, we explain a step by step procedure that will enable you to install and run distilled versions of DeepSeek by using WebUI.
