Messy Church is fundamentally about people just coming in all their mess and with their messy lives and their messy families - just coming to God as they are and seeing what a Christian community is all about. Everything you do, all the activities you prepare, the language you use, the environment you create - it's for children and for adults, for old and young. Re-creation and recreation are so closely tied that it's all about meeting God in the safe space of play.

What we're trying to do in Messy Church is to provide a space where people could come in and observe what goes on in a church.

There needs to be food, there needs to be a gathering around tables so that people can be human together. Messy Church is church - it works best when it's seen as another congregation of the church and it feels as if it's giving a lot of churches a new lease of life. We're creating spaces for God's Holy Spirit to work in us, so it's not just about learning about God, it's the opportunity to meet him.
