Never Take You Car to PepBoys!

I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Pep Boys due to the lack of trust and the clear inexperience of the technicians in the shop. When I called to inquire about specific tires they didn't have in stock, I was told I would need to physically go to the store to make a deposit because they don't take deposits over the phone. This outdated policy is incredibly inconvenient.
They gave me an expected delivery time for the tires from the warehouse, but the actual delivery was WAY off. Before making the deposit, I specifically asked if they had an experienced technician for wheel alignments, explaining that the Ford Explorer is tricky due to the Tow Link Bar recall. I was assured they did.
When the tires finally arrived, I brought my car in for installation and an alignment, clearly stating that I wanted a before-and-after printout of the alignment. When the job was supposedly done, I had to remind them again to provide the printout. The printout they handed me was faint and bluish, making it difficult to read. When I asked why, they admitted their printer had been out of ink for a while, and they didn't have any replacements--unacceptable for a professional shop.
Upon reviewing the alignment printout, I saw the rear alignment was never done, as the readings were identical before and after, and still out of tolerance. When I asked why, I was told the rear wasn't adjustable on my vehicle--this was completely false. I had to demand they either put my old tires back on so I could take the car elsewhere or place the vehicle back on the alignment rack.
Ultimately, they put the car back on the rack, and I had to walk the technicians through the alignment process step by step. It's absolutely unacceptable that I had to teach a Pep Boys technician how to align my vehicle.
Save yourself the frustration and go to a shop with trained, professional, and trustworthy staff. This was a waste of time and money.
A few days late, it has now escalated beyond inconvenience to a serious safety concern. While driving on the I-290 Expressway, I heard a thumping noise from the front left of my vehicle. Upon arriving home, I jacked up the car to investigate and discovered that four out of the five lug nuts on one wheel were loose and about to come off! Checking the other tires revealed the same issue across all four wheels—none of the lug nuts were properly torqued.
This level of negligence is unacceptable. Not only does it jeopardize the trust between the customer and the shop, but it also places lives at risk. This is basic technician competency—ensuring lug nuts are properly tightened after mounting tires.
This incident is part of a larger pattern of disappointing service at this location:
1. Inconvenient Policies: I had to visit the store to make a deposit for tires because they don't accept phone payments.
2. Delayed Delivery: The tires took far longer to arrive than promised.
3. Inexperienced Staff: After demanding an alignment printout, I realized the rear alignment wasn't done, and I had to instruct the technicians on how to perform it correctly.
4. Poor Equipment Maintenance: Their printer was out of ink, and I was handed a faint, unreadable alignment printout.
This most recent issue with improperly torqued lug nuts could have caused a catastrophic accident. It's a clear indication of a lack of professionalism, training, and quality control.
I provided video evidence of the loose lug nuts to support this review. I strongly urge potential customers to avoid this location until they address their staffing and procedural deficiencies. This is not just about poor service—it’s about safety and accountability.
