In this talk, Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga, founders of Barcelona-based practice Barozzi Veiga, present their most recent projects. This series of works reflects the studio’s ongoing exploration of how contemporary architecture can grow from what already exists. The lecture will delve into the delicate interplay between permanence and transformation, showing how the reading of a place—its forms, rhythms, and latent histories—can become the starting point for a new architectural narrative.
Speakers:
Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga are architects, educators, and founders of Barozzi Veiga. Their Barcelona-based practice works internationally on both public and private commissions, with a focus on cultural, civic, and educational buildings. Barozzi Veiga’s built work includes the Szczecin Philharmonic Hall (2014), the Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur (2016), the Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne (2019), the Tanzhaus Zürich (2019), and the museum Abby Kortrijk (2025). Currently, the office is developing projects in Belgium, Spain, the UK, the UAE, and the United States, where it has been commissioned to create a new artist residency in Miami and a masterplan to reconfigure the Art Institute of Chicago. Their projects have received numerous international awards and have been included in major international exhibitions and publications. Barozzi and Veiga regularly lecture on the theoretical background and design approach of the studio and participate in academic activities worldwide.
