This is a story of hoods, greed, and betrayal from the mean streets of the Big Apple — a deep dive with exclusive photos, wiretaps, inside information — and a huge surprise twist at the end. First, let’s meet the players: Musah Coward, also known by his rap name General Mecka, was the driver and apparent leader of the crew. Coward gained clout from his rap videos. His right-hand man was Charles Powell, also known as Payback; he had that tattooed on his neck. Then there’s Brian Castro, a.k.a. Morenaje. And finally, Shamel Myhand, known as Lala. This wasn’t an Oceans 11 crew.

This still unravelling crime yarn started back in 2020 when these boys were looking to pull a heist. They headed for a neighborhood gambling spot, on Hegeman Avenue in a Brooklyn hood called Brownsville. Inside was a bouncer named Rodney Maxwell. He was brave but it ended badly. It sparked a huge investigation by the NYPD and the FBI and led to courtroom drama and a surprise ending that’s not really an ending — yet.
