EDIT 19 October 2023: Subtitles with Afrikaans (Native) and English Added! :-)
Since the Afrikaans version of the show does not seem to exist anywhere in the digital domain, I have taken the liberty of using the video material available from Youtube and added the Afrikaans audio dub from a VHS tape (no longer around) that I made a very long time ago to give fans a taste of how it sounded on our Televisions during the early 2000's if not late 90's.
Sylvan is a Spanish animated series produced by D'Ocon Films and created by Antoni D'Ocon around the year of 1998. Research of the D'Ocon film logo at the intro has shown that it was used anywhere from 1995 to 2003.
The show centers on the character, Sylvan and his heroic fantasy adventures in the Middle Ages. Sylvan is a swordsman hero of King Charles, who defends and protects the kingdom from the evil forces. Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvan_...)
Sylvan was available on VHS in English in South African stores and was initially aired between the periods of 1998 and the early 2000's on SABC2 during the day time run on kids slot called "Tube"
The intro was performed by singer Richard van der Westhuizen and no vocals was produced for the credits, while Sylvan was also voiced by him. In a recent email communication with Richard I was able to confirm this and I was told that he was in fact heavily involved with translating numerous kids shows to Afrikaans and even write and the music for their various soundtracks into Afrikaans language. He was kind enough to assist me with the lyrics for the intro theme as well.
Unfortunately there is no additional information at this stage in terms of the show as the SABC in its state of degradation has been unable to give us any info or been able to provide us with a means to the shows material.
As a kid I loved that I could watch a anthropomorphic cartoon in my home language which today, young Afrikaans kids no longer have this luxury since the Government has no interest in supporting or protecting the interests of the Afrikaans language. Such shows are in rarity and usually done with support of Afrikaans rights groups like Afriforum and other private institutions.
