When I got the call about three honeybee colonies living in the same building, I didn’t believe it at first. It’s rare to find more than one colony at a single location, so I was skeptical—until I arrived and saw it for myself. Three separate colonies, all just a few feet apart, had made their homes inside hollow, decorative concrete pillars.

The blazing Florida heat made this one of the most challenging rescues I’ve ever attempted. My thermal camera was no help, so I had to rely on experience and a bit of guesswork to track down the bees. Armed with my hammer drill, smoker, and a lot of patience, I carefully worked to guide them out—hoping I could find all their queens.
