Attempting to use CAD geometry outside of the original CAD environment can often seem insurmountably difficult. In fact, some companies' experience with this has led to policies restricting the use of CAD-relevant software that does not work directly within their CAD environments.
This is both unfortunate and unnecessary. It’s unfortunate because it significantly limits opportunities to leverage that geometry for other highly useful purposes, like creating photo-realistic renderings for marketing communications, or for use within cutting-edge virtual or augmented reality environments, or for use with a variety of state of the art analysis capabilities. It’s unnecessary because making CAD geometry useable outside of its native environment can be done quickly and easily.
The Santos production team processes CAD data from original CAD environments for use in all sorts of non-CAD environments on a regular basis.
